To sign up as a Driver partner on the Sambie Ride Platform, you must meet the following criteria:
Age Requirement: You must be at least 21 years old (or 25+ depending on vehicle commercial insurance tier).
Valid Ethiopian Driver’s License: Must hold a valid, active Driver’s License (Commercial / Code 2 or above) issued by the Ministry of Transport and Logistics (MoTL) or a Regional Driver & Vehicle Licensing Bureau. Temporary or expired licenses are not accepted.
Clean Driving Record: A safe driving history with no severe traffic violations or major reckless driving offenses.
Background Screening Consent: You must consent to identity verification and criminal background screening, including providing a valid Police Clearance Certificate (Certificate of Good Conduct).
Smartphone: Must own an Android smartphone (running Android 8.0+) or Apple iPhone (running iOS 13.0+) with active internet data and GPS functionality to run the Sambie Driver App.
To ensure safety and comfort for passengers, vehicles operating on Sambie Ride must meet the following standards:
Vehicle Age: 2008 model year or newer (Requirement may vary based on city administration or specific ride categories like Comfort vs. Standard).
Body Type & Doors: 4-door sedan, hatchback, or compact SUV in good cosmetic and mechanical condition.
Seating Capacity: Minimum of 5 seats (including the driver) up to 8 seats for larger capacity rides.
License Plates: Must carry valid commercial or code-appropriate plates (e.g., Code 3 commercial taxi or designated ride-hailing plates registered in your operating city/region, such as Addis Ababa or regional city administrations).
Air Conditioning & Safety Features: Operational seatbelts for all passengers, working headlights/taillights, and functional heating/AC systems.
You must upload clear, legible photos/scans of the following documents during the onboarding process:
Driver Profile Photo: A clear, forward-facing headshot photo taken against a plain background (no hats or sunglasses).
National Identification: Valid National ID (Fayda), Kebele ID, or Passport.
Valid Driver’s License: Front and back of your official commercial driver’s license.
Vehicle Ownership / Registration (Libre): Official vehicle registration certificate showing ownership or an authorized power of attorney (Wekelna) if operating a vehicle owned by someone else.
Third-Party Vehicle Insurance: Valid mandatory Third-Party Motor Vehicle Insurance Policy (3rd Party Insurance Certificate).
Annual Vehicle Inspection Certificate: Valid annual vehicle safety inspection sticker and certificate (Bolo) issued by an authorized transport agency.
Police Clearance Certificate: Official Certificate of Good Conduct issued by the Ethiopian Federal Police Forensic Department or Regional Police Commission.
